Giovanni Panerai opened his tiny watchmaker’s shop, which doubled as a watchmaking school, in Florence in the early part of 1860. Though, it wasn’t until 1936 that Panerai announced the first prototypes of the Radiomir, for the frogman and commandos of the Royal Italian Navy. Today, you can still see the main features of that first watch. The large, smooth, almost cushion- shaped steel case and illuminated face, with a hand wound movement, is still present in modern models.
Panerai has four main collections: Radiomir, Radiomir 1940, Luminor 1950, and the Luminor. All of which mimic the distinct design of that first popular prototype. This timeless precision and luxurious, yet durable fine watch, makes it another top investment watch choice.
